Master Sergeant Alvin R. Cook is the Senior Military Science Instructor for the Drexel University Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Program. In this capacity, he is responsible for developing cadets to serve our Nation as United States Army Second Lieutenants. He is a Field Artillery Senior Leader in the United States Army and a twenty-year veteran.
MSG Cook is a native of Garland, Texas. He has served every position in the Artillery from Platoon Forward Observer to First Sergeant. He began his career in 2nd Battalion 82nd Field Artillery Regiment as Platoon Forward Observer and ended as a Company Fire Support NCO. He was assigned to 1st Battalion 9th Cavalry Regiment in Fort Hood, Texas where he served as Infantry Platoon Forward Observer from 2002-2005. While he was assigned to Blackhawk Company he was deployed to Habbaniyah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was then assigned to 1st Battalion 12th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas as a Fire Support Team Chief 2005-2008. While in Apache Company he was deployed again to Baquba, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Shortly following that he was DA selected to become a Recruiter in Beaverton, Oregon. Once his Recruiter detail was completed, he was assigned to 1st Battalion 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team at Fort Lewis, Washington, where he served as Battalion Fire Support Sergeant from 2011-2014. While assigned to Hawkeye Company, he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Panjwai. Afghanistan as a Battalion Fire Support NCO where he was responsible for coordinating and conducting over 500 surface to surface and air to surface engagements. After that he was assigned to HHBN, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he served as the Division Fire Support NCO. He deployed with the 82nd Airborne Division headquarters to Baghdad, Iraq from 2014-2015 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. He was then assigned to Headquarters Company, 1st Special Forces Group at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington where he served as the Group Fire Support NCO. After completing his assignment with 3rd Special Forces Group he was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion 94th Field to serve as a First Sergeant. After completing his Battery First Sergeant obligation he was selected by the 17th Field Artillery Brigade Commander and Command Sergeant Major to be Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 17th Field Artillery Brigade First Sergeant.
MSG Cook has earned the Combat Action Badge, Airborne wings and the German Army Gold Schutzenschnur. Additionally, he has earned a Bronze Star for Combat Action with the 23rd Infantry Regiment. He has earned a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, four Army Commendation Medals, and five Army Achievement Medals in his career. MSG Cook is married to SGM Sandra Cook from Buckley, Washington, and they have three children, Jadyn (18), Bryce (13), and Isabella (9).
